In the rainforest session we read through books that are based in a forest. We imagine that we are in the forest and ask the children what they would do or what they think of the story. We find that this usually generates fantastic questions and we can talk about it or explore how it feels with our activity tables.
Under the sea! We explore all the fascinating creatures of the Ocean. We look at turtles, whales, dolphins, coral and even sharks. Our sensory play sees us playing water and sand and trying to find the hidden treasures. This is a great session with lots of opportunities for the children to explore and ask questions. Who hasn’t wondered at all the items washed up onto shore…
This session includes fun with colours, lights and talking about how different colours make us feel. The session does not focus too heavily on feelings but allows the children to explore different colours and textures and we ask how it makes them feel. This session includes mixing lights to see what colours we can make.
Bugs and Butterflies:
Who hasn’t heard “Look at this- what is it?” Everyone is curious about Bugs and Butterflies. We talk about the life cycle of butterflies and during certain times of year we have real caterpillars and chrysalis (cocoons) for the children to look at and see how the butterflies emerge. For those that aren’t as interested in butterflies we have bush cockroaches and cicadas to investigate… it is all interesting to us!
This is one of our favourites! Who doesn’t love hearing about Australian wildlife- our children love exploring what might live in their neighbourhood or where they could go to see wildlife. We cover Possums, Emus, Koalas, Wombats, Frogs, Platypus … this list is endless! It is amazing the habits some of our wildlife neighbours have-we love sharing it with our little explorers.
